End of the year of 2011.

According to those who make much of the Mayan calendar's end of cycle (5125 years), the last cycle saw the revolution that brought forth the "great civilizations" from the Mayans to the Egyptians, Chinese to Persian.

End of the world or just a change in the paradigm that brings a new surge in the thought, philosophy and technology?

As it is said to have happened before, a new worldwide revolution begins as the current paradigm is shown for the false creation that it is, laid bare to be seen in all its ugliness of greed and fear; ignorance and destruction. The class war that has raged for centuries is being fought openly and with new vigor.

2011 is prophesized to begin the final push towards the rapid conclusion of the cycle.

Are we seeing the actual "ending"?

I truly believe it is not the physical ravaging and destruction of the planet but a shift in all its awesome power. A shift to a new paradigm and we are either a part of it or we can try and sleep through it.

I don’t know if the Mayans actually came up with an understanding or if it is a universally understood collective memory and need that comes through in multiple cultures at the same time – the Mayans are not the only civilization to have this prophesy (The Hopis, the Celts, the Chinese all have similar ideas)

Sides were drawn a long time ago – Those who oppress us and those who are oppressed…. The silent and the screaming. The POWER must SHIFT just like it is said has happened before.

A NEW REVOLUTION - A year that is marked as the beginning of change throughout the world.

From a street vendor in Tunisia to Madison, WI, stance against the governor who betrayed the workers of the state; From a Spring in Egypt’s Tahrir Square to the streets of New York City; from the streets in Yemen to Liberty Park in Denver; From the capitol of Bahrain to the capitol of Israel; From London to Oakland, Athens to Atlanta, Rome to Portland.

The people are taking their voice back.

Denver Snowed In - Or just snowed? Just Another day in Paradise

On Wednesday night, December 21, 2011, we began a Denver every-5-years, Holiday snow storm. This year we have 14" that fell in 24 hours through Thursday.

And every year, the media comes out with the litany of excuses from city officials as to why they won't deal with the snow.

This year is that "they can't afford it" since Denver alone costs $300,000 to remove snow from streets beyond the major thoroughfares.

BUT, Boss White, the new face and hired gun for the Denver Police Department, can afford to spend tax dollars on the overtime, the equipment and massive numbers of over-charged "DPD" security force, dressed in their shiny black riot gear - serving only the few, the corporate, the moneyed wealth - to attack the encampment of 40 to 50 activists and some of Denver's "throw aways", the homeless, in the 22 degree cold at Civic Center Park, Tuesday night. While the new Boss - same as the old Boss - stood in the background surveying his creation of mayhem, his "officers" (and I use the term loosely) fell upon those huddling and sleeping occupiers.

I guess the mighty and fully armed force, numbering about 6 to one, with big Boss White, leading from behind, were afraid the tiny homeless, schizophrenic woman, standing in the snow was of extreme threat to their padded and belted, testosteroned and steroided, manhood as they pushed her violently to the ground; or were afraid the guys sleeping, huddled in the small shelter were of grave threat to national security as they ripped the top from the shelter, attacking and forcing them out into the snow with a threat of pepper balls and glaring light; or were afraid the subversive materials of the occupation - like the Toys for Tots collected to give poor Denver children, without which there is no Christmas gift - were of grave threat to the survival of the American way of life...so must be destroyed by backhoes and bulldozers.

The city claims it would cost $300,000 to remove snow from your street and all the streets of Denver. They claim they can't possibly afford to bring in the crews and pay them a living wage to scrape the snow out of the streets in order for citizens to get out of our homes BUT, Boss Mayor Michael Hancock, the face of Denver's elite, can afford ( spending nearly $800,000 to date on attacking protest in Denver while blaming it on the protestors...) to prevent the people's voice by attacking protestors who have done nothing but claim there is no time limit or curfew on FREEDOM!

Saturday, October 15, 2011, approximately 3000 brothers and sisters of the 99% met at Broadway and 14^th Avenue in Denver – Lincoln Park, the PEOPLE'S PARK, surrounded by police was declared “closed”.

The movement is growing – the awakening of moms and dads, their kids, their parents, their aunts and uncles; their neighbors and co-workers; GI Gens to Baby Boomers to Gen X, Gen Y and Cyber….

AND we marched ….

Today we marched from that meeting place in view of the capitol building all nice and trimmed with white chairs and linens and a huge American flag to the left of the walnut podium and Colorado flag to the right. The place where the governor, Hickenlooper, will be meeting with the veterans’ group in order to do his ‘governor” talk – talk of bravery and freedom; the greatness of the country and it’s flag and laws and grand Democratic values.

We marched down through the 16th Street Mall to the cheers of many of the workers and as the Saturday noon munchers were basking in the 80 degree sun. We marched to the Fed and through the banking and financial district of Fidelity, Great Western, BOA and Wells Fargo - all those majors in steel and concrete all dressed in Italian marbles and huge darkened panes of glass.

We marched keeping time on the narrow streets, the PEOPLE’S STREETS, passing film crews and bullhorns and gendarmes dressed in blue - many brothers and sisters standing on the statues and columns fists raised. Chants echoed through the tall buildings and the concrete canyons...

We marched our way back, about 2 miles in total, back towards the Capitol where we were stopped - The governor was speechifying on the Capitol lawn - his photo op with the Vets was not to be interrupted by the mere citizenry - Would be "unseemly" for the vets to watch us practicing our CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS.

Hey, Hick, do you THINK those Veterans, who watched the blood and guts and horror of war, don't appreciate what it was for which they had sacrificed their lives?

The police, sheriff and state troopers (mostly) have blocked LINCOLN PARK - the PEOPLE'S PARK - from anyone that isn't homeless or a tweaker....Guess Hick loves seeing drug deals and needle exchanges more than the faces of his countrymen, women, and children exercising free speech.

We have no issue with any of the 99% - the police, the troopers, the sheriff's department - many of whom support this movement but are ordered to stop our speech.

Many know they are part of the 99%. They are getting battered in their workplace as well and ordered to hold back the people under the Hickenlooper regime.

Corporatist Hick would sell his mother for a shiny penny and sold a mountain to GE. His bio reads of a common man - geologist and restaurateur - but rarely mentions his real estate development and business holdings...He is the voice of corporate personhood and protects its sleazy underbelly.

If there ever was a question as to why Ritter was only the one term trying to be green, centrist Democrat made Gov, it can be answered here and now. CO Democrats are purple and the political heads prefer their corporatists to the people.

We saw it in Bennet, we saw it in Udall, we saw it in Salazar and we see it in Hick – all would sell our soul for 30 pieces of silver

#OccupyDenver has been on the ground since Mid September......

On October 13, in the warm afternoon sunshine of "Indian Summer", Governor Hickenlooper ("Hick" to his campaigners, buddies and proudly promoted in the commercials to make Johnny boy look like a good, down to earth, one of the masses, nice guy) decided to take exception to this. Afterall, he just sold our soul (and a mountain) to GE for an "alternative energy" plant - Guess he must appear he has a control on his state....

THE Hick stated that there is a curfew in Denver and the protestors are in violation...A SERIOUS matter, it seems. This is what he has put forth as to his objection to the occupation of Lincoln Park by the 99%.

Oh, yeah, he finally mumbled something about veterans having a "do" planned at Civic Center Park this weekend. I guess the Vets can't be troubled with the People practicing their CONSTITUTIONAL rights - They might get offended by THE PEOPLE thinking that those rights are important... Never mind that this is exactly what those vets put their lives on the line to protect.

Maybe the HICK doesn't know how to connect those "dots."

There have been no riots, no obstruction of roads and traffic, no disorderly conduct, no violence or abuse, no violations of laws other than that pesky, all important curfew....

A curfew that has been on the books for quite some time but not enforced on much of any scale, and only used when they want to bust people and don't have just cause.

Now that curfew was expanded to start at 10 pm to 6 am during the DNC but they allowed protestors to camp in the parks then. They dropped the expanded curfew after the convention and even hold events lasting until well past curfew time at parks - 4th of July, New Year's Eve, Cinco de Mayo...All those events demanding special dispensation (in other words - money ) as well as allowing all bars, restaurants and businesses to stay open as long as they want as long as booze is stopped by 3 am.

The People have camped in Lincoln Park for 4 weeks since Mid-September, along with the hundreds of homeless who live in the parks, next to the police station, next to City hall and up against the Mint, and even on the grounds of the Capital building, and no one said a word about curfew until Hick decided to play stormtrooper on the People's ass Thursday night and Friday morning.

I have never seen the homeless hauled in to a warm jail for breaking curfew. They stay camped out all day and all night - winter, summer, Spring and Fall - outside breaking that important and "so enforced" curfew all year round except during the convention when they were all rounded up and dumped in the suburbs - not seemly to have a sterno drinker disrupt the senators fun, ya know

The 99% - The people kept their heads Friday morning as they were stormed by men in riot gear and helmets - the PEOPLE stayed peaceful. Lincoln Park was surrounded by troopers still in gear all day Friday and they wouldn't allow a soul into it...
THAT IS against the Law - The PEOPLE'S RIGHT

There is the Civic Center Park to the East, across Broadway with a wide sidewalk and the people - the 99% - assembled there with the media. The police won't do a thing now but are ordered to hold curfew and bust them if they stay past 11 pm. No one can camp in Civic Center (except the tweekers and the homeless) or Cheesman (again except the homeless and the tweakers - and hookers plying their trade) or other areas

I guess the Hick can't sell us off and look at us at the same time. Poor Hick...King of LoDo, the servant to the 1%

On Friday, conservative billionaire David Koch lamented the deep federal cuts that are expected to impact both the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute—and, by extension, MIT's new David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research. "If the cutbacks happen, it will significantly diminish the level of research that can be carried on at the Koch Institute," he said, speaking at the opening of the research center. Koch, the executive vice president of Koch Industries, implored the deep-pocketed attendees of the ceremony to fill the gap with personal donations: "I earnestly ask you to do all you can to help maintain the superb research at the Koch Institute at its maximum level."
But who's responsible for making these crippling cutbacks? Some of the very Republicans that David Koch and his brother, Charles, have bankrolled in their deep-pocketed—and successful—effort to help the GOP win back the House.
House Republicans axed $1.6 billion in NIH funding in the budget bill they passed last month—5.2 percent of the agency's budget—which will deliver a significant blow to the agency's National Cancer Institute, according to government officials. Spearheading the effort has been Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), the party's budget-slashing golden boy, whose office tells Bloomberg that the NIH has received enough spending increases—and that "the Democrats' 'spending spree' must stop and that priorities need to be set."

Over the years, Koch industries has invested heavily in Ryan's political career. The company is the sixth-largest donor to the Wisconsin Republican, contributing more than $60,000 to his campaign and political action committee since 2000, including $10,000 in the 2010 election cycle. The company also donated $17,000 to Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who has proposed an even more radical 37 percent cut in NIH funding. Overall, Koch Industries gave over $1.5 million to federal Republican candidates in 2010 alone, along with $1.2 million to the Republican Governors Association.
Cancer research advocates are horrified by the potential impact of the GOP's cuts. "These are blind cuts that take us exactly in the wrong direction; they are wrong-headed and short-sighted," John Porter, a former GOP congressman from Illinois, told Bloomberg. And the head of the National Cancer Institute has warned that the Republicans' cuts could significantly curtail cancer breakthroughs at the NIH—the center of American medical research and the biggest research institution of its kind in the world.
Koch, however, is giving the Republicans a pass for making such cutbacks. In his Friday speech at MIT, he explained that the "serious cutbacks" to cancer research are "due to the massive deficits the federal government is incurring." The implication, in other words, is that lawmakers have no choice in slashing spending. The reality is that Republicans have railed about the deficit only at opportune times—ignoring the issue when it comes to tax breaks for the wealthy, for instance, while banging the drum for cutting government spending directed at scientific research, social services, and other vital programs.
Koch, a prostate-cancer survivor, has given hundreds of millions of dollars to fund cancer research. But this isn't the first time that his devotion to the cause has clashed with his politics. In 2004, he received a presidential appointment to the National Cancer Advisory Board of the National Cancer Institute itself. But in 2010, Koch resigned from the board under public pressure, after a New Yorker article revealed that one of his companies, Georgia-Pacific, produces formaldehyde and lobbied against a federal effort to designate the substance as a known human carcinogen.
In a rare interview with the New York Times in connection with opening of the MIT cancer center, Koch insisted that his personal commitment to cancer research is distinct from—and takes precedence over—his political giving. "I read stuff about me and I say, 'God, I'm a terrible guy,'" Koch said. "And then I come here and everybody treats me like I'm a wonderful fellow, and I say, 'Well, maybe I'm not so bad after all.'" "He wanted to do a book signing and she wanted to arrest him," was the lead on KCBS TV in Los Angeles. Dozens of activists attended the book signing in Beverly Hills of Karl Rove and his new book, Courage and Consequence. After almost an hour of his lies I leapt up with a set of handcuffs and my full page arrest complaint followed immediately by the event security. I managed to get very close to Rove, even tricking the security to let go of me, causing Rove to dash away while I reached for his wrist with the hand cuffs. My words followed him. But he only went a few steps and was greeted by Dede Miller, her nephew Casey Miller, son of Cindy Sheehan was killed in Iraq 6 years ago April 4th. She told him his lies killed her nephew while holding up a photo of Casey. Patricia Foulkrod, director of the Ground Truth stood by him with an Arrest the War Criminal banner as the event unraveled and he announced to the organizers it was over.

As to what they said...Read any of Rove's fictional accounts, Bush's own statements, the Downing Street Minutes - that Rove now claims don't exist and are fabricated ...they do exist and they are not fabricated; Also Lawrence Whittaker, General Colin Powell, and a number of others more honest and trustworthy than the king of Rat-Fucking Rove)
4. Cheney is the new savior incarnate. Jesus in an over-sized $3000 suit. (Lizzie is trying to promote this as well as are the AEI, The Weekly Standard and other Neo-Con mouthpieces)
5. No one that was a REAL REPUBLICAN outed Valerie Plame - it was Armitage (nope, it was Cheney - the conventional wisdom says Cheney...motive mode, and opportunity says Cheney...Scooter wouldn't sacrifice himself for Armitage; Cheney wouldn't sacrifice Scooter baby for Armitage....The only loyalty of Cheney is to the PNAC and Scooter, not Armitage, is part of that corrupt group of fear and war mongering psychopaths).

What exactly did Bush and Cheney do wrong?

As I noted several days ago, it is not only Republicans -- but Democratic and media establishment figures as well -- who clearly crave the preservation of the Bush/Cheney approach to Terrorism and civil liberties. When Bush's popularity collapsed to historic lows, political and media elites pretended for awhile to object to his administration's fear-based and radical policies as extremist and an assault on "our values." But that was all just such a transparent pretense. In those few instances where Obama has rejected the Bush/Cheney template, the outrage and hysteria from Democratic and media voices is pervasive, and is growing louder.

Just look at these illustrative incidents. Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell went on Fred Thompson's radio show yesterday to demand that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed be put before a military commission -- at Guantanamo. Over the weekend, Time's Joe Klein lambasted the Obama DOJ, and embraced Bush's former CIA and NSA Chief Michael Hayden, by objecting to the criminal charges and Constitutional rights afforded the accused Christmas Day bomber, with Klein decreeing: "the bomber is an enemy combatant. He doesn't have Miranda rights." MSNBC personalities Chuck Todd and Savannah Guthrie chatted yesterday with their boss, MSNBC Washington Bureau Chief Mark Whitaker, all agreeing that the decision to grant civilian trials for "Terrorists" is "a pure, self-inflicted wound." When Najibullah Zazi was arrested for allegedly plotting a serious Terrorist attack, The New Republic's Michael Crowley said he was so frightened by this that he was open to torturing Zazi. Democratic Senators are threatening to join the GOP in cutting off funds for civilian trials. Democratic members of Congress joined with the GOP to prevent even modest reforms of the Patriot Act and other surveillance abuses. City officials compete with one another over who can be the most frightened and terrorized by Terrorists.

And The Washington Post's Richard Cohen -- who was so frightened by Terrorism that he wrote multiple screeds screeching that we must have vengeance on Saddam -- devotes his entire column today to criticizing Obama for putting us In Grave Danger by rejecting a handful of Bush/Cheney Terrorism policies (headlined: "Obama administration is tone-deaf to concerns about terrorism"):

There is almost nothing the Obama administration does regarding terrorism that makes me feel safer. Whether it is guaranteeing captured terrorists that they will not be waterboarded, reciting terrorists their rights, or the legally meandering and confusing rule that some terrorists will be tried in military tribunals and some in civilian courts, what is missing is a firm recognition that what comes first is not the message sent to America's critics but the message sent to Americans themselves. When, oh when, will this administration wake up? . . .

No doubt George Bush soiled America's image abroad with what looked liked vigilante justice and Dick Cheney's hearty endorsement of ugly interrogation measures. But more is at stake here than America's image abroad -- namely the security and peace of mind of Americans in America. . . . The Obama administration, on the other hand, seems to have bent over backward to prove to the world it is not the Bush administration and will, almost no matter what, ensure that everyone gets the benefit of American civil liberties. But the paramount civil liberty is a sense of security and this, sad to say, has eroded under Barack Obama.

Leave aside that Bush -- like Obama -- also tried some accused Terrorists in civilian trials and some before military commissions. Leave aside that the second-term Bush -- like Obama -- withdrew authorization for waterboarding. Leave aside the factually inaccurate claim that Obama is "ensuring that everyone gets the benefit of American civil liberties" when he is, in fact, detaining many people without any charges at all and putting many others before military commissions.

Beyond all those factual errors, look at what Cohen is saying: Bush "soiled America's image," but what he did was right, just and necessary, and Obama should follow that -- which is essentially what many Democratic Party and media elites are saying as well. Seriously: if you were a Bush follower, wouldn't you feel as though you were owed a major apology for all the accusations and the fuss that came from Democrats and media figures, accusing you of supporting radical and Constitution-shredding policies when, it turns out, they actually crave those policies in order to feel safe? Doesn't all of this bolster the Republican claim that those attacks on the Bush administration for civil liberties abuses were not due to genuine conviction, but rather for partisan gain (in the case of Democratic officials) and cheap, preening, wet-finger-in-the-air moralizing (in the case of media stars)?

Consider the example of military commissions. When the Bush administration unveiled those, the reaction from Democrats, progressives and media outlets was overwhelmingly and intensely negative, on the ground that military commissions (no matter what rules they followed) were appropriate only for "battlefield justice," when there was no other alternative. The consensus was that our normal system of justice -- developed over two hundred years -- was the only just and proper venue to try accused Terrorists, had been proven effective, and beyond that, the perception that we were inventing new and inferior tribunals of justice for Muslims would fuel Terrorism and make us more unsafe. What happened to all of that? Was there a single Democrat or progressive defending military commissions when Bush and Cheney unveiled them as their preferred method for trying Terrorists? Now, suddenly, Terrorists belong in military commissions -- at GITMO? So the defining creations of the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld approach are now the centerpieces of the Democratic and media consensus.

All of these attacks on the Obama administration really leave one wondering: what is it exactly that Bush and Cheney did wrong? Was it just the waterboarding (the official authorization for which was withdrawn several years before Bush left office and which, in any event, people like Richard Cohen and Michael Crowley still crave)? Everything else other than the "enhanced interrogation techniques" was good? What happened to all the profound talk about how they ruined our image in the world and violated our "core principles" and how we can simultaneously Stay Safe and adhere to our values -- which happened to be a central theme of Obama's successful presidential campaign? How can Democrats and media stars claim to find Bush and Cheney so distasteful as they simultaneously attack Obama for reversing their defining policies in a few isolated instances? In the areas of civil liberties and Terrorism, what exactly did Bush and Cheney do wrong?

UPDATE: Noting this insightful Adam Serwer post -- which equates the willingness of many Democrats and Republicans to scream political epithets they don't really mean (Obama is a foreign, Terrorist-loving socialist; Bush is a Constitution-shredding fascist) -- Atrios writes:

Just adding to the post below, at some point it became clear that the consensus of official Washington, including many Democrats, the scribblers at Kaplan Test Prep Daily, the Great Minds at Very Serious Think Tanks, and guests at Sally Quinn's table dancing parties, is that torture is awesome, the rule of law only applies to Al Gore, Bill Clinton's penis, and all people who don't have important DC jobs, and all it takes to nullify the constitution is to call someone a terraist. I don't know how to change this, and electing the Hopey Changey guy didn't help much. I think they're playing Calvinbill a bit more fairly, but they're still playing it.

Bush/Cheney & Co pounded the fantasy concept of a "post 9/11" and a "pre-9/11" paradigm shift into our thick skulls so well that we all respond to the verbal and subliminal cues to act against our own best interests.
Fear, anger and imaginary monsters in the woodwork control our actions, beliefs and attitudes whenever the term "9/11" is used.

We turn on our friends, neighbors and ourselves by assuring that we give up our own freedom for that imaginary security from big daddy. He most certainly is going to protect us from the evil mean dark shadow terrorists that are mostly NOT there.

Sure terrorism exists...internally and externally. It has existed in literature, stories and historical writings as far back as society itself. As soon as man became political, there has been terrorism.

The only difference is in how WE perceive and treat those who perpetrate those actions.

Before 9/11, they were treated like anyone else who maimed, murdered, conspired to maim and murder; who disrupted and destroyed. They were criminals, no better, no worse than others who did similar crimes...A serial killer, mass murderer, an arson ...

After 9/11, we give them nearly super-human powers - they can walk through walls, disappear right before our eyes; walk through any security system without so much as a flicker on a screen; will slaughter millions with the bat of an eye and cackle an evil laughter that will be heard through time and space.

We deify them, imbuing them with such power that we must create a magical ritual to contain them in a sanctified place, chained and bound with holy spells and destroyed with magical device only used by those priests of the holy sect of military secret society.

AND WE DO EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT!

We create the best propaganda source ever known..The great nation, shining beacon on the hill, the light and hope of humanity turned into sniveling, scared brats, murdering, torturing innocents, removing our own rights and taking away the rights of others; attacking sovereign nations without just cause; lying and manipulating, cheating, slaughtering - mass murdering, raping...We have become the sickly underbelly of the demon itself led by our own appointed leaders.

The only way out of the complete shred of the fabric of our society; the complete destruction and cannibalization of our nation, is to stop the stupidity and the continual neurotic fear we consume daily and start healing ourselves, turning away from the propaganda and back to our moral compass. As the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops renews its offensive on the anti-abortion language in the heath-care legislation soon to be finalized by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, four of those bishops appear to have given their seal of approval to a group whose leader gloated over the killing of Dr. George Tiller, a gynecologist who performed late-term abortions in Kansas, and called on anti-abortion activists to next "get" Dr. LeRoy Carhart, who performs similar services at his Nebraska clinic.

Missy Smith, a stalwart member of Insurrecta Nex -- Randall Terry's merry band of anti-choice hecklers and street clowns -- announced plans yesterday to conduct a training session for her own organization, Wake Up, at Washington, D.C.'s John Paul II Cultural Center, an institution presided over by four bishops, including Donald Wuerl, the archbishop of Washington. (The other members include John Myers, archbishop of Newark, N.J.; Bernard Harrington, bishop of Winona, Minn.; and Cardinal Adam Maida, the retired archbishop of Detroit.) Among the speakers on Smith's program is Operation Rescue founder Randall Terry, who famously called Tiller "a mass murderer," adding that Tiller, who was killed in cold blood, had "reaped what he sowed." Susan Gibb, communications director for the archdiocese of Washington, refused comment on whether Archbishop Wuerl approved of the use of the Cultural Center by Smith and Terry, though she made the point that it was Smith, not Terry, who booked the facility.

George Tiller's patients often traveled long distances to avail themselves of his services, since he was one of a handful of doctors willing to perform late-term abortions, usually to women who learned late in their pregnancies that the fetuses they were carrying were severely deformed and would not survive very long, if at all, outside the womb. For prospective parents left to make excruciating choices, Tiller provided services believed to promote healing, such as funerary services for the fetus, as well as allowing the parents to be photographed with the fetus. Anti-choice extremists often point to these acts of mercy as evidence of Tiller's "evil"; he is misrepresented as a bloodthirsty criminal who took joy in committing macabre acts with "dead babies."

Since Tiller's murder, one of the few remaining abortion providers to offer late-term abortions is Dr. LeRoy Carhart of Nebraska, for whom two Supreme Court cases about the issue of late-term abortions are named.

Two weeks after Tiller was gunned down while ushering a church service, Missy Smith addressed a June training session for Insurrecta Nex activists.

"So, we’re all here to march on and to stop the slaughter of these little babies," she said. "And to tell the truth, the biggest part is to use -- tell everyone what Tiller did. Most of America doesn’t know that he took these dead babies and dressed them up in christening dresses and took their pictures. Most Americans believe, because of the liberal press, that he was a wonderful, martyred person, you know, who did -- you have to kill a baby, don’t you, when a woman’s nine months pregnant -- you just have to do it? I mean, most people believe that. And now we’ve got to get Carhart."

With that, she left the podium in a meeting room at the Arlington, Virginia Doubletree Hotel to appreciative applause.

I learned of Missy Smith's planned appearance at the Cultural Center from a press release sent by Randall Terry, who noted that he would be a speaker on Smith's program, along with two of his regular activists. The program coincides with the annual March for Life in Washington, an event where anti-choice activists mark the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion.

At present, no one appears to want to take responsibility for allowing Smith's group to contract the facilities at the John Paul II Cultural Center. When I called the Cultural Center in the evening (I didn't receive Terry's release until after closing time), I could find no one in the directory whose obvious responsibility was facilitating use of the center by outside groups. I left a message for a Brother John who oversees something called the Intercultural Forum. I received a voice mail from Brother John in the morning directing me to contact Missy Smith with any questions about Randall Terry's inclusion on her program.

I called Smith, as well as John Sanders, the director of facilities for the John Paul II Cultural Center, but as of press time I had not heard back from either of them.

Archbishop Donald Wuerl sits on the center's four-bishop executive committee, so his spokesperson seemed an appropriate contact for any comment the archbishop wanted to make about the use of the Cultural Center by Missy Smith and Randall Terry. But archdiocese communications director Susan Gibbs grew testy with me when I pressed for comment as to whether or not the archbishop approved of Smith and Terry's training session at the center, saying only that the executive committee has nothing to do with the day-to-day operation of the Cultural Center. When I pressed to get a comment on whether Wuerl judged Terry to be an appropriate guest for the center, Gibb simply repeated her claim that the executive committee is not involved in the Cultural Center's bookings.

"I'm sorry if you don't understand that," Gibbs said. But she didn't disavow Smith or Terry in the archbishop's name, and instead used Smith as her line of defense, saying that it wasn't Randall Terry who booked the facilities, it was Missy Smith. The same Missy Smith who told Insurrecta Nex activists that it was time to "get" LeRoy Carhart, presumably in the same way that George Tiller was gotten.

Randall Terry, the antiabortion extremist who founded Operation Rescue (and then was ousted from the group) has been a busy man since moving to Washington, D.C. last year. Most of his activities have focused on President Barack Obama: heckling the president and his nominees in various venues, and performing street theater that features a white man wearing an Obama mask while turning a bullwhip on his confederates. Another Terry street-theater act involves the stabbing of plastic baby dolls and the profligate use of fake blood.

On the day that Tea Party activists rallied against health-care reform legislation, Terry staged a skit outside a Senate office building in which he was costumed as the devil, while activists donning the masks of Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid pretended to be writhing in the fires of Hell.

It was Terry who organized the heckling of the president during his address at Notre Dame, a Catholic university, and Terry who dogs Catholic bishops he deems insufficiently pro-life with protests outside their chanceries. Missy Smith was arrested for civil disobedience at Notre Dame with Terry and former U.N. Ambassador Alan Keyes. Since that time, Smith told the gathering of Insurrecta Nex activists last June, she had joined Terry in "six or seven protests."

This is the same Randall Terry who sent his minions into the Senate to disrupt the nomination hearings of Justice Sonia Sotomayor, a practicing Catholic.

While it's likely that the bishops who lead the John Paul II Cultural Center were unaware of Smith's partnership with Terry when she booked the center's conference facilities for her training session, the refusal of Archbishop Wuerl's spokesperson to disavow them is troubling, especially given Terry's violent rhetoric and racist depictions of the president.

For Randall Terry, a talented strategist, the controversy surrounding Missy Smith's training session at the John Paul II Cultural Center is a win whether the bishops allow her to hold the training or not. If they kick her out, they bolster Terry's argument that the bishops aren't really committed to "protecting the unborn;" if they permit his group to use the facilities, Insurrecta Nex -- of which Missy Smith is an integral part -- receives a de facto seal of approval from the church.

An OPEN LETTER TO CONGRESS

DEAR (Congresswoman Congressman, Senator)!

Thank you! Thank YOU!

I am ecstatic that the CONGRESS has FINALLY listened to the people and voted in the NEW FULL SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE legislation that will now assure all of us from the richest, to the poorest; the youngest to the oldest - will NOW have full health care!

We no longer have to worry about going broke, filing bankruptcy only to find that we are not relieved of a single penny of the debt that is killing us.

We can finally buy that loaf of bread about which we have been dreaming.

We might be able to rent a studio apartment and get out from under that cardboard box we set up residence when we were hit with all those bills left after my “health insurance” denied coverage for many of the required medical visits before and after surgery (radiation, chemo, after-care, psych treatment) and they cut off payments they felt were unnecessary, like the heart monitor, the rehab, the surgery, the radiation treatment, the medication since there was no generic, the detox from months of pain medication after the car accident that nearly killed me and ruptured 6 vertibrae, the baby’s birth since being female was a “pre-existing condition”, the meals since they were not “part of required treatment”, the tests because they were not pre-approved, the emergency room after the accident because it was out of network, the helicopter taking us from the top of Mt.McKinley because they thought it was an unnecessary expense (I guess we could have crawled down and hitched a ride)..

We can finally believe that all women are held with the same esteem as men and that our government respects our rights for choice; our control of our own destiny; our ability to act on behalf of ourselves and our families based on our intelligence, knowledge and moral conscience without interference by anyone else - least of all a male with a desire to control all women

Now those 122 dying every day can live; that 47 million holding their breath hoping they stay in perfect health because the flu or a bacterial infection will make certain they can’t pay rent or buy food for their children.

Yes, I am so proud to be an American where my government is “of the people, by the people and for the people” – my government is caring only about what WE the people actually NEED to survive and live a life befitting the taxes we pay; a government that puts my rights and those of all humanity above the almighty dollar or the power it can buy; a government where it’s officials and elected representatives pays REAL attention to what is for the COMMON GOOD and NOT have their heads turned by the pariah on K Street offering my representatives a political life for their souls….

I am happy to know that when I go to sleep, my rights are secure, my health in the hands of trained and qualified physicians and my money in secure and fully regulated institutions….

That life , liberty and the pursuit of happiness are assured for all……

The Senate will be debating health care today - that is IF they can get 60 to support debate and keep the obstructionist shills for the insurance industry and the Pets of Rush, otherwise known as the Grand Old Pariah, from stopping it.

That bill is a mess but it is better than what we currently have - which is worse than nothing

The best part are the controls that may be placed on insurance companies - the worst is that it is still written to protect them

Single Payer? Never allowed.

Never considered by Baucus who even went to the extent of having the single-payer lobby forcibly removed from chambers when testimony was given to get "all possible options" a voice

The final option for single-payer destroyed in the House when Weiner stopped his amendment from going to the floor at the 11th hour - after Kucinich and Conyers backed off to ALLOW Weiner's; amendment after Pelosi gave the nod to put it in and gave the time for an up or down on ONE AMENDMENT to be voted before the main event...WEINER didn't present it, allowing Stupak his single shot at fame and a huge campaign fund influx from Catholic Bishops and the Insurance industry lobby

Jonathan Turley, considered by many to be THE FOREMOST expert on Constitutional Law in the country and considered a bit liberal for being just that (though speak the the extreme on the right - if one can "speak" to them without getting a tirade, sermon or pure hostile vomit- they would argue that only good, clean "Amarucuns" would know a thing about that esteemed document and that it was not written for the likes of them pink commie haters of American values like the professor ).....
Professor Turley wrote a column on October 18, 2009, published by the LA Times and on his website, concerning the continued refusal by the Obama administration to hold Cheney and Bush accountable for the war crimes committed in our name....The latest?
How can anyone accept the Nobel Prize while ignoring what was done in our names by the last administration? All the national and international laws against humanity broken by Bush, Cheney and their entire administrative from the Oval Office through the CIA, pentagon and all the way down to the guards in the prisons?

HOW can we, as a nation, turn a blind eye and accept these crimes committed, "move forward", ignoring them like they don't matter, they never happened?
How do we have the arrogance, the HUBRIS, to think that the world will ever forgive or forget?

To truly earn the Nobel Peace Prize, President Obama needs to transform himself from a barrier to a beacon when it comes to human rights and international law.

The most obvious start would be to fulfill our obligations under treaties and international law to appoint a special prosecutor, without limitations, to investigate and prosecute any war crimes committed by U.S. officials. Obama already has acknowledged that waterboarding is torture and that torture is a war crime, yet his administration is blocking investigations that are the prerequisite to justice. Obama has promised CIA employees as a group that they would not be prosecuted for torture for following orders, despite the long-standing finding from the Nuremburg trials that “just following orders” is no defense for a war crime. Appointing a special prosecutor would show that Obama will not continue to circumvent principle for politics. He could further demonstrate his commitment to international law by dropping his opposition to the release of photographs and other records showing our abuse of detainees.

Doing the right thing often demands decisions that are neither popular nor easy. If Obama wants to show that the peace prize is more than the superficial triumph of a cult of personality, he can start by showing that his own country is willing to pay the price demanded by the law of nations.

Jonathan Turley is a law professor at George Washington University and has served as lead counsel in various major national security and constitutional cases.

President Barack Obama's campaign promise of an open government disappeared shortly after he took office and the closed-door, secret negotiations on health care reform demonstrate all too clearly that politics in Washington remain "business as usual" in his administration.

The secrecy that surrounds White House actions rivals that of the often-criticized administration of former President George W. Bush and key decisions on health care reform now are not being made in the open but in behind the scenes negations involving three Democratic Senators: Majority Leader Harry Reid, Christopher Dodd and Max Baucus.

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is also participating in the secret sessions along with other members of the White House health care team: A far cry from the open door government that Obama promised while campaigning for office.

Washington Post staff writer Perry Bacon Jr. reports that the closed door sessions are "a setting that is anything but revolutionary in Washington."

Writes Bacon:

The group will make such key decisions as whether to include a government-run insurance plan designed to compete with private insurance companies. The bill passed in July by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which Dodd led while Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) was ailing, included such a provision, but the legislation passed last week by Baucus's Finance Committee did not.

The secret sessions are a far cry from promises Obama made 90 days before the election when he said "I'm going to have all the negotiations around a big table," adding that the negotiations would be "televised on C-SPAN, so that people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents and who are making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or the insurance companies."

Republicans, of course, are not happy with the secrecy:

"This bill is being written in the dark of night," House Minority Leader John A. Boehner of Ohio told the Post. "The president ought to keep his promise to the American people and open this process up."

Few in Washington expect that to happen.

Obama IS a politician. We elected a right of center politician, did we really think it was going to change THAT significantly?

The system is entrenched and will take a major upheaval of revolutionary proportion to get it changed.

It is not the fault of the people in DC. Not really.

IT IS the fault of you, me and everyone else in the country that continually ignored it for decades until it got so bad we could not ignore it any longer. We have placed official after official in that rancid muck hole to destroy this country while we were too busy deciding what to eat, where to eat it, what mindless drivel with which to fill up our time, what to buy next to fill the empty hole in our bellies in which that moral compass once lived

We need a good shock to pull us out of the doldrums and bring us kicking and screaming, clawing back reality…..We went off the precipice and thought we could fly but are crashing to the bottom and don’t even recognize that the ground rising to meet us is actually us falling.

We are responsible for the failings of Washington since we ARE Washington – voting in crooks, liars, scam artists while accepting their inhumanity and lack of morality. They are representative of the people since we have all lost our own willingness to stand for what we say we believe, what we say we exemplify, what we say we are.

We are fat, lazy, immature, whining scared little children who need to grow up and grow up fast or we just might lose what we claim to be so precious…if we haven’t already.

The world now knows why President Obama reversed his earlier decision to release the 2,000 photos of prisoners barbarically tortured, abused, and humiliated under the direction of the Bush/Cheney gang.

Some of the photos of the prisoners show U.S. personnel torturing, sexual assaulting and raping male and female detainees, including children. The existence of these photos was confirmed by former Major General Antonio Taguba. Taguba had earlier been in charge of the inquiry into the Abu Ghraib jail in Iraq.

On May 21, Cheney went on national television to defend torture and sickeningly attacked Obama for sacrificing "innocent lives to spare a captured terrorist from unpleasant things." We'd like to hear him explain how rape and sexual assault are just "unpleasant things" that have spared innocent lives. The last few months has proven that the abuses, the sexual assault, and the most barbaric violations of human rights cannot be attributed to a few bad apples. Such tactics were commonplace, officially sanctioned and elevated to the level of government policy.

The torture methods, like the war itself, have never been about saving lives. A recent column in the Nation echoed what IndictBushNow reported last week: "The Bush administration, hellbent on justifying its forthcoming invasion of Iraq, was ransacking the intelligence bureaucracy to find or produce two things that, it turns out, did not exist: weapons of mass destruction programs in Iraq and cooperation between Al Qaeda and the regime of Saddam Hussein."

The Iraqi people have never waged war on the United States and no Iraqis took part in the attacks of 9/11. Bush & co. wanted to go to war, and were just looking for an excuse.

So why, given the recent revelations, has Dick Cheney responded so publicly in defense of the Bush administration's war crimes? He's afraid! He's not just concerned about preserving the administration's "legacy" -- he's concerned about preserving his own neck.

Don't believe us? Take it from Cheney's daughter, Liz, who recently explained her father's outspokenness on CNN: "He certainly did not plan when he left office to be doing this... Then when [Obama] suggested in the Oval Office itself that he would be open to the prosecution of former Bush administration officials including many who weren’t political appointees potentially, you know really, I think, made my dad realize this was just fundamentally wrong. We had to speak out."

Our argument for prosecution is becoming irresistible. The fact is that every revelation lays bare a whole new level of criminality. The more details come about the Bush administration's heinous acts and deliberate deception of the American people, the more people are starting to talk about justice. Already, many people who once said, "we need to move forward" are beginning to reconsider: no one can move forward until we have come to terms with the country's past. That means accountability: the indictment of the criminals.

Protest against Cheney at University of Wyoming Sept. 10

“Big protest planned in Laramie against the dedication of the "Cheney International Center" on the University of Wyoming campus. If you know anyone who lives close enough to travel, please let them know. You're welcome to repost to UW and other local websites, and lists, too. I find it ironic to name a building after the guy who was so clueless about how countries get along with each other!”

The lowdown:

Rising up from his undisclosed location, the former veep will crawl out of his hole and be in Laramie Sept. 10 to dedicate the "Cheney International Center" on the UW campus. He will also be feted with a luncheon at the Laramie Country Club. The naming rights to the center were purchased with a gift of $3.8 million

Real Americans don't torture!! Bring empty milk jugs and 2-liter pop bottles, caps and labels removed, to demonstrate against water boarding (we will pantomime slowly pouring water). Meet in the free shuttle parking lot at 22nd and Willet Streets in Laramie at 9 a.m. for a rally and march to the ceremony, or in front of the old School of Nursing before 10 a.m.

We actually plan on being polite during the ceremony, which is much scarier than making predictable noise. We will also carry signs and banners denouncing torture and warmaking. Other small acts may crop up.

World Can't Wait published this announcement on 9/9 for the protest rally planned during the Cheney event to be held at the University of Wyoming. Seems as though the University in Laramie decided to pay off their benefactor with a building n response typo the $3.8 Million given by The Dick Cheney** (we know the money was earned through his so-called "bliind" investments that tracked closely to the failing dollar http://www.counterpunch.org/whitney07052006.html. He had a tendency to make JUST the right investments betting against the dollar while he and baby Arbusto slaughtered the US economy and gave billions in no bids to Haliburton and KB&R, both his former companies in which he continuied to hold lots of stock).

Personally, I believe a more fitting name would be The Cheney International Center For Torture, Constitution Shredding, Criminal Behavior and Usurpation of International Law

There was a time in my life, I had some respect for the Chamber of Commerce and it’s work on behalf of GOOD business practices in the country but there was a cancer that ate its way through your organization just like it did through business America, turning you against the small business owner and the average citizen.
You are no more than a shill and mouthpiece for the psychopaths trying to strip this country.

Your mother must be proud - so very proud - of your stance on Health Care…If she is alive once the insurance companies you are pushing, steal the last penny she has and kill her off by denying her care…..Your kids too…Hope they are healthy – diabetes…forget it…leukemia, sorry, too expensive

Government-run plan – you claim it will put many insurance companies out of business – UHC out of business; BCBS out of business – REALLY? You have such little respect for my mentality and that of the average American to think anyone with more than a 5^th grade education and a brain is buying that? Insurance companies ARE the only corporations in the country allowed to be monopolies and trusts and they ARE BOTH!! No regulation, kicking out between 25-50% of all health claims, denying care for no reason and often AFTER an expensive procedure has been done, bankrupting the patient…if the patient doesn’t die from the disease for which he needs treatment, he surely will die in poverty and on the street once the carriers get through with him and his family!!!

The "Middle Class", born of the late 1800's with the industrial revolution hitting full stride, expanded at its highest rate in the late 40's with the war and then peaking in the 1950's with the tax rate on $400,000 or more a year at 90-92%, socializing the country with highways, fire departments, schools, water and public works, and utilities...the growth in military (and the onset of control by the military industrial complex) was under Truman...(the second best Republican president we ever had) and Eisenhower (who actually learned to fear them and warned us of them in his farewell speech). Still growing but slowing in the 60's, the Middle Class held its own as the tax rate for the wealthy began to drop, first under Kennedy then Johnson (the BS of the Grand Old Pariah that the Democrats are all about tax and spend never did hold but then they have always been liars).

The Middle Class got its first, nearly fatal wound under Nixon...then healed a bit then shot again, closer to the heart, under Reagan with continued tax cuts only to the rich while the Middle Class paid all the bills. The beginning of the breakup of utilities by the Republicans continued sucking the life out by sucking the money and giving it to the power brokers of the baby bells (Onset of Qwest, SW Bell, PacBell, etc) and the selling of the power grid and what they held, they never bothered to keep up…Xcel Energy, to this very day, is under staffed refusing to hire trained personnel and under-paying those they get in to train so that they leave BEFORE they learn the grid (How many realize that there are only a handful of people in over ½ of the nation that actually KNOWS how to deal with the grid… working 10-12-24 hour days extending into weeks and months because there is no one to take over who can do it) and pretty much held together with bailing wire and duct tape since the companies would rather pay those high salaries and bonuses to the useless, uneducated Exec before spending it on the grid or the infrastructure upgrades needed.....No more public works for utilities...In march the speculators and middle men allowed by the deregulation of the power and utility companies…Enron, et all, begin their games of controlling the gas, oil and other power markets, buying low and selling back at 10 to 20 times the value, driving the west into the ground and the middle into bankruptcy…Utility hikes are NOT due to shortage…The “shortage” hasn’t started yet as long as we can still depose leaders of sovereign nations in order to steal resources, we don’t care about the finite resources until they…well, finish being there. The hikes are due to greed.

Now we have the Middle Class shrinking to levels not seen since WWII but the upper classes continue upward…millions and millions spent on salaries and bonuses for people hired to run corporations who know NOTHING about the industry they are in; rewarding for failures at our expense; executives who created nightmares for the country being hired or appointed to Federal cabinet posts or department positions without real positive experience ….Transferring and churning their take ever higher while the worker starts getting pay cuts and layoffs… Reagan cutting the wealthiest to a tax rate of 28% - setting off a “California style earthquake” in the economy that spiraled out of control – just like he did as governor…obviously, he learned nothing..they hover between 28 to 33% (going up under Clinton to set off a new mini boom for the economy…more money in the coffers and more money for people in the middle

THEN walks in the Black Bart of the DC scene….Phil GRAMM (you know – the K street lobbyist that McCain had design his economic plan and who was to be appointed as McCain’s economic leader if he won?)….The man who with the rest of the Republican Contract ON America shills put the last bullet into the Middle Class…He schemed and manipulated and churned the K street lobbyists into a frenzy…Like a rock star of greed when he manipulated the death of Glass Steagall…The law that clearly brought us out of the mess in the 30’s with the banks (the law that put oversight on the oversight..the law that kept the banks solvent and told them they could not spend our money without telling us and without accountability), and rammed through Gramm Leach Bliley which allowed the rich and wealthy to take over and breed with the banks, creating unregulated bastard hybrids that raped and pillaged their way through the first part of the decade..The new 21st century depression was in the works….As we slowly were eaten away on the back as we were sold nutritionless fluff to gorge on in the front with credit cards and come ons that even the smartest of us bought (because it was AMARICUN! Dammit!) we put ourselves into a fix…The Fed even pushed the use of Credit to pay off tax bills (ever call the IRS with a problem? The first thing they ask is “do you have a credit card?”). The only way to buy anything was with a credit card…Some people stopped taking cash and they wouldn’t allow cash to be mailed! Credit cards were required as ID....required to show one’s credit worthiness…Credit..Credit…Everything must be on credit…That was part of the scheme…

We can bitch all we want about people being “irresponsible” but the fix was in and the war on the Middle Class went to a new phase…Force them into debt..Then the FINAL bomb was dropped…Like a poisonous gas on what was left….Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005. Reformed only for the credit industry (what a farce claiming it to be “consumer protection”…well I guess it was protection of the Credit card companies from the consumer)…Bankruptcy laws were gutted and there was no more relief for those falling further and further into despair..Low paying or no jobs, manufacturing left to the 3rd worlders; we are now unable to get relief from our own emergencies…Cancer? "Tough! Get your treatment and go live on the street! FINALLY, the International Red Cross released the long awaited "secret" report, written on VALENTINE's DAY, 2007....Can't you just feel the love????

The report is detailed, the documentary is VERY watered down but still not a pretty look at the base. What they did not seem to realize is that the two commanders interviewed really told so much more than they intended. They came off as arrogant pricks ....

Sorry to say, for those promoting the concept of Gitmo as the paradise of Cuba, even the Navy couldn't hide that life in a 6.5 x 8 foot cell is not heaven. Life in a 6.5 x 8 foot cell with a pillow, maybe, a blanket, if you are a "good boy", a toilet and a cot (without being chained to the floor in stress positions for weeks on end) for SEVEN YEARS is NOT even remotely pleasant.

When asked outright about Bagram, Obama sounded eerily like those who came before....When it came to granting Bagram detainees habeas rights or the right to challenge their detention in U.S. courts, THE CURRENT administration simply stated that it ( the adminostration) “adheres to [the Justice Department's] previously articulated position”. In other words.... habeas would NOT be granted.

I also expected to have a President that would hold our Constitution and our country in as high esteem as I.

Mr. Cheney and Mr. Bush are self confessed war criminals. They have gone on record in front of the American people admitting to ordering torture. They supported and ordered TORTURE.

You have the International Red Cross, the CIA and the US Military giving evidence of their involvement in torture and the torture that was committed from waterboarding, sodomy, beatings, sleep deprivation, loud noise and music for days on end, torture that is too heinous to discuss.

NO living creature should EVER be subjected to this treatment and these detainees were tortured repeatedly, not for weeks but FOR YEARS AND YEARS - the Bush Administration knew it, approved it and encouraged it!!!!

On Feb 19, 2009, a “leak” came out of the Dept of Defense (the Pentagon) about a report to be given to President Obama referencing Guantanamo, Camp X-Ray and the treatment of detainees. Of course it was leaked before it was ever given to the White House then made fully public on the 20th. The Wrong-Wing apologists as well as the Pentagon’s paid spin doctors and “consultants” have been VERY busy, working over time to jump on the claimed “unauthorized leak”.

From Reddit to Digg, Twitter to Newsvine…the spin was spun like a category 5 tornado blowing out every bit of reality in it’s path. The MSM spread it on front pages and Op-Eds were fast to follow.

Blog after Blog of “see we told you it was a resort!” Even quotes from Cheney “We’ll it is the tropics” came through faster than a speeding bullet to try to strike at the heart of those of us who have fought the HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES that have continued in our name.

The Pentagon, investigating GITMO…Kind of like PolPot investigating the actions of the Khmer Rouge; Hitler investigating the Gestapo…Stalin investigating the KGB…

The response internationally was quite the opposite. It is spun as Obama’s excuse to continue the practices of Bush

There are some of us fighting to get hell on earth closed and there are some of us who have taken the hits for doing just that. What Obama has done is at LEAST taken the time to question. Now we just have to MAKE that question turn in to action. NOT an easy chore with the Pentagon acting like the IAGO to his Othello. Bagram was an "unknown" to most Americans until recently….Talk about “OPEN DEMOCRACY”….The Military Machine likes to keep the truth covered as strongly as North Korea’s Kim Jong Il does.

What is more surprising is that most Americans think Abu Ghraib was a blip on the screen, closed and shuttered away as a single, short term, mistake... bad trip; Bagram is "new", though it dates back to pre-Guantanamo, and Guantanamo the "REAL" prison...They don't even know (and many don't CARE) that there are dozens more, possibly HUNDREDS. Even the former "vacationers" have named OVER 100 Black Sites (http://cageprisoners.com/prisons.php) for the CIA and FBI with a little help from their friends MI-5, with (or without) the cooperation of the country in which the prison sits.

We have had only a handful of the guards from Guantanamo with the conscience and strength to speak out; ONLY TWO continuing the march to get this hell closed. NO one from Bagram seems to have taken the chance as of yet….Got to love the Pentagon’s brain-washing and control of their minions. Chris Arendt is now traveling England speaking to bring attention to the issues. He did what he could here and went to try to bring the attention of the world…Now Brandon Neely has stood out a bit and has taken some chances in interviews outside of the program...Both are met with hostility, derision and threats to their life.

The anger at the U.S. for it’s abuses and imperialistic aims is quite justified but do not make the mistake of thinking that the stupidity and mindless destruction from the last 8 years and the imperialistic aims over the last 60, is the same as the desire and want of the people; That the imperialism set off after WWII has anything to do with the citizens who came to trust what they were told by a media owned by those castrated moguls living in the pockets of impotent evil old men who actually believe their own propaganda.

THE FOCUS needs to remain on those who brought this hell to fruition and not blame those who are working to bring it down. WE MUST stand together, nationally and internationally, to bring about the change that is needed. Bagram and Guantanamo are symptoms of the illness and not the illness itself. We can eradicate both but the illness will remain.

The illness, OUR illness, a childish and unjustified fear of all things "other"; all things that do not reinforce our opinion of self; our view of our omnipotence and our perfection is a product of too many tears of wanton laziness brought about by our false sense of exceptionalism, entitlement, faux spirituality; our egotistical self-importance leading to our self-righteous indignation when confronted with anything that doesn't fit into our view of self. We have become an immature, misguided and down right lazy society with a moral compass buried in fear and distrust of anything outside. A complacency has set in over years and years, decade after decade, as we gradually turned over our rights and response-ability for easy ignore-ance and comfort. Growing fat gorging our selves upon the sugary, toxic syrup and lusciously poisonous praise heaped on by those who have never had our best interests in mind but rather wanted all the power and wealth to commit some of the most heinous crimes in OUR NAME. As long as we can be shown a fantasy world of security and safety; as long as we get assurances of our goodness and rightness; as long as we get the crumbs thrown at the right intervals, we are willing to allow TORTURE, DESTRUCTION, and MURDER; Stripping the Earth, the Sea and other living beings of everything that will promote our over bloated, conceited and self-involved existence.

WE have become the pawns for some very evil men on ALL sides and we are the only ones who can ultimately take that power away from them and regain ourselves to bring about education, awareness and understanding of all and stop the insanity of hate for hates sake and fear grown from ignorance - willful or not.

The U.S. had 8 years of tyrannical control by Cheney and Bush as a front for the PNAC who used fear and their exceptionalist propaganda to put themselves into power, again. Bin Laden, the Taliban and others are doing the same. Those who hate us don’t even care to know us and those of us who hate you don’t even care to know you…It is in the best interest of the rabid fear-mongers to keep knowledge away from those they want to control.

The election in November placed Obama in office over “more of the same” McCain. To the outside world we did nothing different but the truth is that intelligence won over stupidity. Pragmatism over blind arrogance.

Contrary to the implications made, Obama is NOT the Pentagon, the Pentagon is its own entity that, after 60 years of greed and manipulation, has been allowed too much power, going rogue. They are not to be trusted; they thrive on war and strife; AND it is in their interests to promote bigotry and hate. IT STILL amazes me to see and hear SO many people in THIS country who refuse to see what has been committed in THEIR NAME. ..................

Graciousness has not the forte of the Republicans for the last 14 years. What Obama has done, if nothing else, has brought graciousness and dignity to an event that lost it over the past generation or two.

The commentary and posts I have noted in recent days on both the McCain websites and the Obama websites, written by the obvious Republican supporters exemplify the current Republican response to dignity and to graciousness - Tear it down or sneer at it because they certainly cannot relate to it.

McCain went negative in his campaign but not on issues of policy or true concerns like the economy, security, healthcare. What he chose to do is to prop up old, stale, talking points with no substance then draw attention away with fantasy, innuendo, gossip and when that failed, let's try creating fear and pushing hate. McCain chose to use fear-mongering, saber-rattling and scam instead of honesty, intelligence and focus.

The "negative" used by Obama in his campaign was focus on FACT - McCain voted 90% with Bush and crowed about it until the polls showed it was unpopular; McCain lied about Obama's tax plan trying to make a case for what used to be called "fuzzy math" by his mentor; McCain chose to manipulate his supporters with rants about "suspending his campaign" to work on the economic crisis but spent a better part of the time filming interviews and playing political games from his condo in DC; McCain chose Palin as a running mate without vetting and without thought as to what a VP is and the world he would leave us with if he won and he was incapacitated - a useless, uneducated and untested unprofessional who knows nothing about law, Constitution, position or even how to cross a street in a big city.

Obama stands in front of a crowd of 100,000 in Manassas, in Denver, in other cities. In SMALL COLLEGE TOWNS, his numbers are 30,000; 45,000; 50,000.

No, THIS IS NOT any simple election.

He "de-institutionalized" and released us from "warehousing" those with emotional problems (his term for dumping fully institutionalized SEVERELY ILL people on the streets with no after care, no support and no on-going treatment, leading to a jump in the homeless population and an increase in crimes against those people). He cut funding to major health organizations from facilities for mental health to those treating severe retardation making it impossible to maintain the care and treatment levels necessary to do anything but basic maintenance and in many cases forced those institutions to release their professional staff and replace them with untrained and unqualified non-professionals since those institutions could no longer afford anyone else.

With that human horror came other great CONcepts like:

Cutting food programs in
schools (deciding that ketchup packets are a basic vegetable source and
therefore meets standards for nutrition and could fulfill the vegetable
requirement in any given meal);
Fighting abortion with statements that 5
week old fetuses could survive away from the mother without life support
therefore that aborting a 5 week old fetus is murder of a human being that could
live on it's own outside the mother;
Calling on HIS war experience as a
pilot to justify his policies on defense (though he seemed to forget that he
never fought in any war and his entire experience was IN the US on a set making
movies. His actions in the service were nothing more than war films and pimping
for War bonds)

This has been the basis for the REPUBLICAN PARTY platform since the 80's - gradually getting more corrupt, less empathetic and more corporatist.No matter how they spin it and try to use "the democrat majority for two years," anyone with a brain knows that -

The Democrats only have a clear majority in the House and that has been for a total of 20 months.
The Republican block has filibustered and blocked any real legislation from getting through unless it was kissed by King Wanna Be Georgie Porgie;

The conventional wisdom, through the early evening yesterday, expected Sarah Palin to collapse in a heap, she did not.

Biden was expected to go off on a tangent, he did not.

Palin said she was not going to answer the questions asked and said she would "talk straight to the American people;” she did not answer any questions but instead regurgitated canned talking points and nonstatements downloaded into that limited memory showing little, if any, comprehension of what she spoke. She counted on using her faux folksy and flirtatious winks to manipulate the audience where Biden used depth and substance. Palin used generalities that were read from the notes on the podium (one could watch her do it). Biden spoke from the heart and the brain of specific points and plans. It is no wonder that McCain wouldn't allow follow up questions and they kept the podiums SO far apart.

Palin is a joke but she is a cruel joke on the American people perpetrated by the SAME people who succeeded in perpetrating the last joke on the American people called the financial crisis and the joke called the Iraq War and the joke called the Bush Administration....
